christmas in beijing.

It's different, not being home for Christmas. It doesn't really feel like Christmas, but I've been trying to soak up bits and pieces.

I've been colouring Christmas pictures with my students, listening to Christmas music, drinking hot chocolate, admiring Christmas lights and Christmas trees, eating gingerbread cookies and citrus fruits, drinking holiday drinks.

A surprise Christmas tree was delivered to my school 2 days before we closed so we had to get creative with our decorations. I was pretty happy.

I received a couple of Christmas presents and cards already and I know a few more are on their way. I Skyped my Mom and brother and called my grandparents.

A group of us went to a trivia night at a pub last week and it was Christmas-themed. I sang Christmas songs at the top of my lungs and laughed at movie lines.

I watched The Santa Clause last night with some friends. It was even more magical than I remembered it. In between laughing, I teared up a couple times, I think because it reminded me of my family, especially my Dad.

Things feel simpler. Slower. I like it.

If this is Christmas overseas, I don't mind it. It's about love, right? And I know how much my family and friends love me and how much I love them, maybe now more than ever.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
