life lately.

+ Probably the most exciting thing about my life lately is that I visited the Great Wall on Sunday. A whole post will be coming soon, promise. (Although it's okay if you doubt me about the soon part because I still haven't written a post about the Temple of Heaven. But I will soon! Promise!)

+ I attended my first St. Thomas Alumni event Friday night. It was held at the Kro's Nest and ended up being just a small group of teachers from CISB, but the company was good and the food was delicious (and free!). It was especially nice seeing a familiar face from home: Lucas, a recruitment officer for STU who I graduated with in 2011.

+ While slicing an avocado last week, I cut my index finger. This is only worth mentioning because it's the worst cut I've ever given myself and the blood freaked me out a bit. Confession: I've felt a little nervous slicing the avocados I've eaten since.

+ One of the girls in my hallway gave me a teapot! It was a gift from one of her students but she doesn't drink tea so she passed it on to me.

+ My internet router seems to be broken. I know this because my Wi-Fi network stopped showing up in the list of available networks and also because the IT guy who came to fix it sighed a lot and said, "I think it's broken. Very old. Maybe 10 years. I take it. You buy new one." I don't really want to pay for a new one right now, though, so I've been using a neighbour's Wi-Fi. Which has made for a somewhat spotty connection. That coupled with a VPN that keeps disconnecting means I've been very frustrated. How am I supposed to blog? And read others' blogs? And check Twitter and Facebook? (I think this is the definition of a First World Problem.)

+ The water pressure in my bathroom sink sucked. As in it was barely a trickle even if I had the taps turned on all the way. I finally got around to emailing maintenance yesterday morning and it was fixed by the time I got home from work. This probably caused me more excitement than it should have, but really, try washing your hands efficiently with a trickle of water. (Again, First World Problem.)

Not mentioned: The delicious poutine I ate at a "Canadian" restaurant called The Box. My hunt for clothing that would allow me to look like a troll (the doll kind, not the internet kind) with the rest of the people on my apartment floor for a Halloween party. And the people I've been hanging out with, but that's a whole other post.
