I've become a breakfast-eater.

It took 22 years, but I've finally become a breakfast-eater. And I don't hate it. In fact, I really enjoy it.

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, because we've heard it a million times. I never doubted it, but I rarely ate an actual breakfast. I was more of a "grab a granola bar, or an apple, or maybe even a cookie, and guzzle a tea or a coffee" kind of girl. On a good day, I'd eat a bagel.

Then something changed. I'm not sure what it was, but I've eaten breakfast every day since January 5th. Depending on the day, I either eat as soon as I wake up, or right after I shower. It's become part of my morning routine. On weekdays, I wake up about a half hour earlier than I used to, so that I can eat, drink tea or coffee, and do homework or read blogs. Considering I used to sleep until the last possible minute and have to rush out the door with no time to spare (hence the granola bar grabbing), this is a big deal.

I think that taking the time to sit down and eat an actual meal in the morning has made a big difference. I now realize why breakfast is the "most important meal of the day." Not only does it provide me with enough energy to get through the morning, it sets the tone for my entire day.

When I began eating breakfast in January, I thought I would take a picture every morning to document my progress. Like I said, this is a big deal for me. Obviously, there are not 35 breakfasts pictured here, but this is a pretty good representation of what my morning meals have consisted of. Cereal, toast, whole-wheat Eggos, fruit, the occasional egg, and of course, caffeine.

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. If that's the case, I'd say eating breakfast has become a habit, and it's one I plan on continuing.

Tell me, do you eat breakfast? If so, what are your favourite meals? I'd love to have some new ideas that are easy to whip up on a weekday morning.

  1. I rarely eat breakfast but I love pancakes. If you have a blender I suggest making a smoothie one morning.
