this is my therapy.

Even though I'm not a doctor, have never been seriously ill, and have never had a torrid love affair, this show speaks to me. More times than I can count, I have curled up on a Thursday night to watch Grey's and have thought, "Yes! That is exactly what I needed!" I often tell people that Grey's Anatomy is my therapy. Sounds silly, but it's true.

For example, I have written the following quotes from the show in my journal, and have underlined and re-read them many, many times:

"Stop worrying about what might happen and focus on what's right in front of you."

"Communication. It's the first thing we really learn in life. Funny thing is, once we grow up, learn our words and really start talking, the harder it becomes to know what to say. Or how to ask for what we really need."

"It's a good thing life doesn't come with a scalpel... Good thing."

"Everything is gonna go the way it goes."

Not only are the words therapeutic, but the music. Oh, the music. It was through Grey's Anatomy that I discovered Joshua Radin and Ingrid Michaelson, two of my favourite artists. I should probably make a list of all their songs that you should listen to, but that would be all of them. Seriously, they are that good!

I will, however, tell you that these two songs have helped me through some really tough times: "We Are Only Getting Better" and "Keep Breathing." (I even have the words "keep breathing" tattooed on my wrist).

It's a good thing that the premiere is tonight and that it's two hours long. Because of the week I've been having, I need some therapy!

P.S. Mom, thanks for introducing me to the show. You're the best.

  1. I missed ALL of last season. There were just too many conflicting things. Bought the dvd set though so I plan to watch it and catch up :) Probably won't see the current season until the dvd for it comes out though.

  2. Ooh, definitely catch up! Last season was a fantastic one!
